What Then Cried Jo Soap

about

Singer-storyteller David Keenan releases his new single 'What Then Cried Jo Soap', a clarion call for his forthcoming second album - "WHAT THEN?" - due October 15th.

Of the track, David says: "This song details the desire for purpose and meaning in one's own life. These are human struggles which I believe we can all relate to - we are all Jo Soap - heightened like never before as a result of the great trauma that has affected all our lives in countless ways since the pandemic began."

It’s the latest chapter in the story of this young free-spirit from Dundalk in County Louth. Drawing equally on memories of his teenage adventures in Liverpool, in search of his musical hero, the quixotic Lee Mavers’ of The La’s, and an extended “lost weekend” which lasted five weeks in a pre-COVID Paris last year, David Keenan’s stories explore worlds both fantastical and factual.

lyrics

What then, what then, what then?
What then? cried Jo Soap
What then, what then, what then?
What then? cried Jo Soap
I've sown new seeds I wish to grow,
embrace the many gifts that life bestows upon me
I looked for love she spoke to me
said man is our true enemy
As the alcohol took hold, the level of noise began to rise
As the alcohol took hold, the level of noise began to rise

What can I do you for, let me take your order
Law and disorder on the border in the rain
What can I do you for, give yer man your order
Before you go any further make your mark and sign your name
What can I do you for, let me take your order
Law and disorder on the border in the rain
What can I do you for, give yer man your order
Before you go any further make your mark and sign your name

What then, what then, what then?
What then? cried Jo Soap

What then, what then, what then?

What then? cried Jo Soap.
I've sown new seeds I wish to grow,
embrace the many gifts that life bestows upon you upon me

I looked for love she spoke to me
said man is our true enemy
As the alcohol took hold, the level of noise began to rise
As the alcohol took hold, the level of noise began to rise
A Zippo light in the darkness fed,
Two gold teeth in a krusty head did sing
I'm afraid for my friends,
saying your prayers is all the rage these days
I'm afraid for my friends,
saying your prayers is all the rage these days

What can I do you for, let me take your order
Law and disorder on the border in the rain
What can I do you for, give yer man your order
Before you go any further make your mark and sign your name
What can I do you for, let me take your order
Law and disorder on the border in the rain
What can I do you for, give yer man your order
Before you go any further make your mark and sign your name
